This was the first entry into this conceptual collector series. I started by choosing the imagery for the front face of the box. I ended up opting for a simplified version of the Greek Goddess of Victory (and the company’s namesake): Nike. I also implemented lots of ornamentation to match the visual style of Art Nouveau, creating swirls and psychedelic shapes to mimic those within the bounds of the style. I also added a grain texture to the designed faces of the box to further wash out the color palette and push the poster-like quality.

The messaging on this box equates motion and beauty, creating a clear connection between art and movement, establishing the link between Nike and the concept of the series.

The bottom of the box states:

This shoebox serves as an entry in my Nike “Art is Action” series. This particular box pays homage to the Art Nouveau movement of the 1890s to 1910. Emphasizing ornamentation and visual movement, this box employs twisting naturesque linework and references to mythology to convey a sense of luxury and a return to the mystical world.
