“Rise of Pop Art” Nike Shoe Box
2025
Statement from the Designer:
This shoe box was one of my first endeavors into packaging design. I created on the prompt that it serves as an homage to the rise of printed and mass-produced art pieces during the Pop Art Movement.
The bottom of the box reads:
This shoebox serves as an ode to the rise of print and the mass reproduction of artworks resulting from the 1960’s Pop Art Movement. The emergence of pop art was, at its core, a perpetuation of icons from popular culture with an emphasis on commercial reproduction that begged the question: At what point does art stop being art? Pop artists served as the forefront of innovative artwork by pushing the boundaries, using commercial reproducibility as a tool to force the evolution of the creative world. This concept aligns with Nike’s ethos, creating a powerful message that urges athletes to follow in the footsteps of Pop artists in order to “Reinvent The Game.” The design draws inspiration from Andy Warhol’s exploration of color across numerous works, utilizing a CMYK color space and illusory effects to optically blur iconic images.
Objective:
The proposed task was to integrate Pop Art motifs in a design that aligns with Nike’s ethos to create a uniquely bold package with an equally powerful message. This approach aimed to create a visually dynamic work of art that expresses Pop Art’s core tenets.
